More than a thousand information technology experts from all continents came to Nevada in June 2018 for the yearly HxGN LIVE, the Hexagon international user conference. Simon Schreiber and Merlin Becker, scientific assistants at Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB in Ettlingen, Germany participated at HxGN LIVE 2018. The scientific focus of the Fraunhofer IOSB group is the image exploitation of multi-sensor data from terrestrial, airborne or space borne sensor systems. Parts of this task include conception, realization and assessment of image analysis systems in context of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Read here, how Simon and Merlin experienced HxGN LIVE 2018:
“Daily hands-on trainings, breakout sessions and plenty of networking opportunities in the unique atmosphere of the Venetian Hotel.
Right on the first day, the congress convinced with an eight-hour hands-on training on Luciad technology and ERDAS APOLLO. Luciad is part of Hexagon Geospatial since October 2017 and brings a successful product portfolio, including a GPU-accelerated engine to deliver dynamic real-time information.
In the Luciad training, the participants tested the new technology hands-on, from GIS applications to API programming. The ERDAS APOLLO training not only included a comprehensive introduction to spatial data management. We also learned how to create map services based on own data. We surely benefit from the trainings, especially for some ongoing projects, because the gained insights can be applicated directly.
Most of the other sessions stood out due to their professionalism and topicality. In addition, the focus was laid on the practical applicability of the presented technologies.
We really liked the excellent possibilities for networking: Either at the exhibition center "The Zone", where numerous suppliers presented their products, or at the "luncheon", a meal together with a presentation, as well as in the more informal setting of the evening events: We always quickly got in touch with colleagues and could exchange knowledge and experience.
We would like to thank once again GEOSYSTEMS for the opportunity to participate at HxGN LIVE and we are looking forward to the future close cooperation.”
